The Market is a focal point for the community and acts as a catalyst for local groups to benefit. These include meeting residents, neighbours and visitors: generating interest, volunteers and raising valuable funds. In addition, local businesses and residents can sell their products to a wide audience, which benefit both visitors and stallholders.
Many Community projects have benefited from the support of the market including:
- The Hovingham Playground
- Security project at Hovingham All Saints Church
- Swinton Brass Band, the Samaritans and Cancer Research
- Paths for Everyone, a circular cycle track from Malton which will pass through Hovingham
- Planting new trees in Hovingham
- The Community Coffee morning held in the Hovingham Village Hall on the third Friday of each month
- WiFi in and around Hovingham Village Hall
- Electrification of the church/village clock
- The defibrillator on the outside wall of Hovingham Village Hall
£150,000 has been raised by the market cafes for clubs, churches and groups in Hovingham and Scackleton.
